St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church is a parish under the jurisdiction of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of San Francisco and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, incorporated in 1987 as the West Valley Greek Orthodox Church. The following year, parishioners purchased the historic Peoria Church of the Nazarene, one of the oldest buildings in Peoria, and began holding services on June 19, 1988.
The first full-time assigned pastor was Fr. George
Patides, who served the community from September 1989 to June 1994. In November
1990, parishioners voted to name the church after St. Haralambos, a second
century Christian priest and martyr. In August 1994, Fr. Michael Pallad was
assigned to serve as the second (and current) pastor.
As St. Haralambos Church has grown over the years,
a Strategic Planning Committee was established to address current and future
needs. Part of our Strategic Plan includes building a new, traditional Orthodox
Church building. In March 2001, a 5-acre parcel of land, located on the northeast
corner of 75th Avenue and Greenway Road in Peoria, was purchased, and, God-willing,
will one day be our new and permanent church home.
